How do you plant a dwarf Hinoki cypress?

Planting a dwarf Hinoki cypress (Chamaecyparis obtusa) is a relatively easy process that can be done in a few simple steps. First, choose a location for your plant that has well-drained soil and receives full sun to partial shade. Next, dig a hole that is twice as wide as the root ball and just as deep. Once the hole is prepared, gently remove the plant from its container and place it in the hole.

After positioning the plant, backfill the hole with soil and water deeply to saturate the root system. Hinoki cypresses are slow-growing plants, so they will not need to be fertilized or pruned for the first year or two. With proper care, your plant will thrive and provide you with years of enjoyment.
